Hello! My name is Andrew Hutsell and I have been making knives as a part-time bladesmith for 5+ years.  I enjoy making any kind of knife, and I love exploring the unknowns within the craft and I aim to learn something new for every knife I make. I recently appeared on the History Channel Show, “Forged in Fire” (S10E27), where I came in second place.

As a bladesmith I have made about 20 knives. I have prioritized my schoolwork the past several years, earning my Bachelor’s degree in 2023 from George Mason University where I studied Mechanical Engineering. After graduating, I worked full-time at Newport News Shipbuilding, however, in January 2024, I left the shipyard to begin graduate school at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).

Currently, I am a full-time graduate student at VCU where I am pursuing my PhD in Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering. My graduate research is focused on Molten Salt Reactors and the molten salts that are used as a coolant.
